Grow – Horticulture
(Monday to Friday)
Do you like the outdoors and nature?
Have you got nimble fingers in the garden? Can you nurture and grow crops to eat? Can you tell a plant from a weed? Then come and get involved at Osborne Partnership and learn new skills, learn about the environment, encourage local wildlife, grow your own vegetables, and help us to maintain our beautiful gardens.
It’s an active life and you’ll get to use lots of different equipment ranging from spades to rakes, screwdrivers to trowels, water hoses to wheelbarrows, and lots more in between – all fully supervised of course! We’ll also give you the right protective clothing including protective boots and sturdy gloves. So, let’s get creative in the wild – it’s only your imagination that will hold you back!
GROW
This project is for anyone who likes being outdoors and keeping busy and we have both male and female Partners who enjoy taking part in this project. This project has a workspace outside and a designated indoor work room for those cold rainy days. The Partners on this project will become fitter, stronger and learn lots of new things, and as a result there will be significant improvements in their personal development. They will also feel a sense of pride and value by helping to maintain our beautiful gardens but also improve them for themselves and others to enjoy.
This programme focuses on a wide range of Horticultural activities:
- Gardening
- Growing your own fruit and vegetables.
- Sewing seeds to harvest skills
- Experiencing nature - learning about insects , bugs , birds etc.
- Woodworking skills such as building planters, fencing.
- Maintenance skills such as grounds maintenance, painting, cementing, to the more delicate skills such as flower arranging.
- Learning how to use a wide range of tools and equipment.
- How to work safely
- Getting to try vegetables and fruits

More Information
On our GROW programme, Partners have the opportunity to learn how to safely use a variety of tools and equipment including hand and power tools. This allows the programme to be creative and inclusive to suit a wide variety of abilities and needs but we’ll always strive to encourage Partners to challenge themselves to try new ways of working – creativity is core to our approach!
We also have rear and front gardens for the Partners to work in. The rear gardens have a poly tunnel for the Partners to work from and grow plants in the winter months. There is also an outdoor changing area where work boots, jackets and gloves are provided for each session.
This project helps our Partners learn to work safely, build confidence in trying new things, follow instructions, work as part of a team, awareness of a healthy lifestyle, work independently and work on a project from start to finish to experience the end results.
